A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a limited liability company with the specific aim of providing benefit to a community. In the case of the Community Sports Trust, the 'community' is the sporting community, rather than a specific geographical area.
A CIC is incorporated under the Companies Act 1985 by the Registrar of Companies and has to conform to company and insolvency law in the same way as other UK companies.
The Community Sports Trust is a private company limited by guarantee.
