Sheltered housing having a ball
On 23 March our Fit 4 Life team held an event at Rushcliffe Arena to celebrate the end of a six-week project with Metropolitan Housing. The project was simple - use specialist indoor equipment to help the residents of the sheltered housing schemes to become more active.
Using the Fit 4 Life team and volunteer instructors we set up a session for an hour a week for six weeks in sheltered housing schemes across Rushcliffe. Residents enjoyed indoor kurling, indoor bowls and indoor skittles.
Thanks to funding from Rushcliffe Healthy Lives Healthy Futures, we bought each sheltered housing scheme a set of equipment for them to keep so the residents could use them whenever they wanted.
The competition was a chance to celebrate the success of the scheme. The event took place at the newly opened Rushcliffe Arena and included transport and lunch for everyone taking part. The event was hotly contested between the residents, who had all obviously been practicing hard!
Over the day the sheltered housing schemes competed in kurling, bowls, skittles and boccia with the residents of Abbey Park coming out winners, Rawlings Court in second place and Spring Meadows in third place. The prizes were awarded to the winners by Cllr Debbie Mason.
Talking to the residents and the sheltered housing managers everyone really enjoyed the day and enjoyed that they were able to do something different. A lot of the residents enjoyed the social side of the day as well, meeting up with people they wouldn’t see that often. A lot have already asked when the next event will be!
