First Bolsover District Festival a Success

24th Jun 2013

The first ever Bolsover District Festival Event held on Saturday (22 June) was a great success.  The event was run by Bolsover District Council to celebrate the opening of their new offices at The Arc in Clowne and promote a whole range of local activities.  Bolsover Village Games joined in the celebrations and ran a Rounders & Netball Top Team Tournament to promote the netball and rounders opportunities across Bolsover District.

More than 60 people played on the day with teams like 'Top Cats' from Chesterfield, 'The GTs' from Newbold, 'Southwell Sharks' and 'God Help Us' from Clowne.

Bev Birch, captain of Chesterfield's 'Top Cats' team who were first place winners, said:  "It was really well organised with alternate fixtures dependant on weather.  The umpires were fair and explained everything really well and the organisers were friendly with all teams which made it fun.  Overall it was a fantastic tournament."

Shona MacDiarmid, Captain of Newbold 'The GTs' who won our Most Enthusiastic Team award said:  "It was a great day and a fantastic event.  It was managed brilliantly with loads of things to do, see and try and I really enjoyed the day."

Winners of the Best Team Name award were Clowne's 'God Help Us'.  Captain Kerry Hauge said:  "It was a well organised family orientated fun day.  I'm already looking forward to the next one!"

Laura Stephen is Community Sports Activator for Bolsover Village Games.  She says, "We had a range of people include men and women who were returning to sport as well as teenagers representing the upcoming talent in the area all playing together.  Everybody left a winner with awards for first place winners as well as Best Team Name, Fair Play and Most Enthusiastic Team.  I'd like to give a special thanks to volunteer Teresa Oliver who stepped up to help umpire both rounders and netball games."

"It was great to see such a variety of people coming along having fun and enjoying sport. This was our first fun tournament event and after the feedback we have received there will be definitely be another coming up in the near future!"
