1st Active Tibshelf Festival Netball Tournament in aid of CancerResearch
Saturday saw the first Active Tibshelf Festival Netball Tournament take place in aid of Cancer Research UK raising over £250 through entry fees and donations, plus the umpires donated their fee to the charity too! Over 100 women turned out to play in the sweltering heat and what made this more impressive, was that at least 60 of these women were dusting off their trainers and coming Back To Netball after not playing for years!
The tournament was run by Bolsover Village Games and volunteer Lisa Such with support from England Netball but formed part of the annual Active Tibshelf Festival run by the local community group. The whole event was a huge success and had a wide range of stalls and activities running around the Netball Tournament making it a great family day out!
Teams came from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and althoughtplaying was hard work in the sun all the teams battled it out valiantly with Clowne Back 2 Netball securing their first ever victory as winners of the Back 2 Pool and Team ‘GK’ taking the top spot in the Intermediate Pool. Claire Bailey a Clowne B2N team member said, “We’ve had a brilliant day and it was good to put what we’ve learnt in the sessions into practice as a team. The sessions are really friendly and I’ve met loads of new people, so far it’s just been great fun!”
Laura Stephen, Bolsover Village Games Coordinator said, “The day was a great success and it was brilliant to see so many women getting together and doing something they love whilst raising money for charity! Although the heat made it hard work at times all the teams took it in their stride and played some cracking netball! Most of the women had come from local Back 2 Netball sessions and it was a great opportunity for them to show how far they have come since they first attended.”
The Back 2 Netball teams came from mixture of Back 2 Netball sessions that run across the area by friendly coaches and volunteers, if you would like to give it a go why not find a session near you using England Netball’s session finder.
