Amber Valley ladies offered a rugby route to fitness and friendship

21st Aug 2013

The Village Games project is working in partnership with Amber Valley Rugby Club to offer local ladies the chance to get fit whilst meeting like-minded people.

Amber Valley Village Games is a project which helps local people overcome some of the barriers to taking part in physical activity, and recently received a Big Society Award in recognition of its work.

The link-up with Amber Valley Rugby Club will introduce new weekly women’s rugby sessions to provide entry-level rugby skills alongside some fitness delivered by experienced and friendly coaches. The sessions will be largely dictated by what the participants wish to do.

Amber Valley Village Games officer, Beth Turner, said: “The social element attached to rugby helps make the sport popular with women. Another advantage to the sport is that it is inclusive. It doesn’t matter what age, size or shape you are, everyone has a role to play!"

“It also doesn’t matter if you have never picked up a ball in your life or if you are a seasoned rugby player, everybody is welcome. Make sure that you bring along plenty of water and appropriate footwear - trainers are fine.”

The sessions start on Thursday 5th September at 7pm and will take place at Amber Valley Rugby Club in Lower Somercotes (DE55 4PD).
