Walking Football Starts in Baslow on Thursday mornings

16th Oct 2014

Derbyshire Village Games is working with Derbyshire Dales District Council and the Derbyshire FA to make sure local over 50s get a kick out of the latest sporting craze - walking football.

Weekly sessions of a game that has all the same rules as football - but with no running - are being organised in Baslow and Matlock, costing just £3 a time.

Sessions at Baslow's newly refurbished multi-games area start from Thursday 16 October from 10-11am.

There are also Wednesday morning sessions at the District Council's Arc Leisure Matlock from 22 October from 10-11am.

Derbyshire Village Games co-ordinator Becky Bryan said: "Walking football gives anyone who has played the game in the past the opportunity to return at lower intensity.  Walking Football has the same rules as normal football, just with no running jogging or sprinting.  It’s a great way for older men and women to keep fit and stay active.  Sessions are always open to new players - whether you've played football before or not and there's always a friendly atmosphere."

Chairman of the District Council's Community Committee, Councillor Jennifer Bower said: "Walking football has suddenly grown from nothing to become the latest craze and we're delighted to offer sessions not only for over 50s, but for local people recovering from injuries."

There is no need to book in advance, but for more information contact the Derbyshire Village Games co-ordinator Becky Bryan on 01629 761385 or email rebecca.bryan@derbyshiredales.gov.uk
